Finishing is the final stage of processing of metal, which allows achievement of the specified accuracy. The method of such processing depends on the physico-chemical properties of the metal, the configuration details, purpose and conditions of use. In some cases, it may require a whole range of metal-finishing operations.

Finishing can be carried out by mechanical or chemical means. The mechanical method involves removal of a certain layer of metal or plastic deformation. In some cases, chemical and mechanical operations can be used for finishing the preparation. Among the most common mechanical and chemical methods of finishing are: abrasive extrusion operation, button rifling operation, chemical-mechanical operation, honing, and electrolytic-plasma polishing.
